You brought in objects to class that represented you or your family. These objects tell a story.

The Connecticut Historical Society has an exhibit called Connecticut: 50 Objects/50 Stories in which the story of Connecticut history is told through objects.

There will be a special exhibit, both online and in person called Connecticut Kids: Your Objects, Your Stories in which you can tell your story (or that of your family) through an object artifact.  The object you brought to school may be the one you will want to share!

This information about the exhibit and deadline for submission of materials is listed here:

Connecticut is more than towns and rivers—Connecticut is also made up of the people who live here! In our efforts to tell the stories that define Connecticut, we want to share kids’ stories from all over the state through an object that is meaningful to them.

On Saturday, October 3, our Connecticut Kids: Your Objects, Your Stories exhibit and program will be held at CHS. A selection of the submitted objects will be chosen to appear in this one-day exhibit, and we invite families and visitors to come see these objects and hear these stories. We will also have other activities and crafts available for families to celebrate the stories of Connecticut kids.

Your stories are important and we want to hear them!

Who can submit an object to Connecticut Kids: Your Objects, Your Stories?Any child between the ages of 4-14 who lives in Connecticut can submit an object.

What kind of object should I submit?Anything that is special to you! Think about special memories from your life, things you like to do in your town, memories or traditions you share with your family, or hobbies and activities that you enjoy.

What’s the difference between the online gallery and the exhibit at the CHS?In the Connecticut: 50 Objects/50 Stories online gallery, we’re already displaying all objects and stories submitted by kids and adults across Connecticut. The pop-up exhibit at CHS, on display Saturday, October 3 only, will display a selection of these objects and stories.

Do we have to submit an image of the object? No. But if you do, we can include it in the online gallery.

Do I have to own the object? No, but if you do not own it, it must be an object that you are allowed to bring to CHS on October 3 with the permission of your parent or guardian.

Is there a deadline to submit an object? Please submit your object by September 12, 2015.

What happens if my object is chosen for the pop-up exhibit at CHS?We will contact your parent or guardian by Friday, September 18 to inform you that your object has been chosen. On October 3, the Connecticut Kids: Your Objects, Your Stories exhibit will be in the auditorium at CHS. You and an adult will be asked to bring your object to CHS that morning, and it will be displayed in the auditorium from 10:00 am–1:00 pm. After 1:00, you may take your object home with you.

What happens if my object is not chosen for the exhibit? All submitted objects with images will be included in the Connecticut: 50 Objects/50 Stories online gallery.  We invite you to come to CHS on October 3 to see the objects that will be selected from all the suggestions we receive. You will also be able to join in our crafts and activities.

What information will be displayed in the online gallery? We will post the image of your object, your first name, age, town (if given), and the story that you write about the object in the submission form.

Museums display objects with artifact record cards that tell about the history of the object on display and often the story as to how the museum acquired the object.  Your task will be to write the story about your object using the following prompt:
Write how the object is special to you and/or your family.
You should type your response on a Google Doc so that you may easily transfer the information into the online form if your parent/guardian allows you to enter the contest. In fact, here is a Google Doc that contains the information needed for the contest submission. You may use it to make the draft.  You will need to MAKE A COPY of this document so that you may save the changes to your Google Drive: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fOf0G0zOBSJgCv8lb5xofW2_JCudrbOJ8Rmr6VaSW4k/edit?usp=sharing
